75 years of problem-solving expertise in dental/oral health
It was probably not quite so easy for company founder Johann Pfandl to develop the first arsenic-free devitalization agent TOXAVIT from this philosophy. But with a lot of hard work and a bottle of red wine like in the film Feuerzangenbowle, the Austrian from Pinswang (Tyrol) succeeded in creating the world’s first arsenic-free pulp devitalization agent.
The second generation also took up the mantra of “finding solutions for dentists” to help dentists and patients. The son of company founder Kurt Pfandl developed numerous other specialty medicines for dental and oral health in the 1960s and 1970s: FOKALMIN, PULPOVITAL, HISTOLITH NaOCI, CALCINASE EDTA solution and many more. After his father moved the company from Innsbruck to Stuttgart, the inventive successor searched for and found the current company and production site in Dettenhausen.

The patented ESD removal system integrated in every bottle: introduced in 2013
With its proximity to the university town of Tübingen, the new home of Dettenhausen still has many strategic advantages today. Dr. Brigitte Bartelt, who has been Managing Director since 1997, also provided new strategic impetus. With the expertise she gained from studying pharmacy and working in the pharmaceutical industry for several years, she successfully introduced products in the fields of endodontics, prophylaxis and prosthetics. These innovations include
- The implant care gel durimplant, which is ideal for high-risk patients with a weakened general condition, such as diabetes, cancer therapy, smokers, rheumatism or pregnancy.
- The patented ESD dispensing system integrated in every bottle: solutions can be dispensed easily, safely and directly using Luer/Luer lock syringes. Stains, product loss and hygiene problems are now a thing of the past.
A new product is also planned for the company’s 75th anniversary year. Managing Director Dr. Brigitte Bartelt is still keeping a low profile, but only this much: “It’s another product for our core competence, the field of endodontics”.
Environmental protection
In addition to always striving to manufacture top-quality, state-of-the-art products, lege artis has also long had ambitious goals in the area of environmental protection: Since 2012, 287 solar modules on the flat roof have been generating an annual average of 650,000 kWh of green electricity. In total, over 455 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions have been avoided to date. The company’s vehicle fleet is also gradually being converted to electric vehicles.

The long-established company also attaches great importance to promoting art. Since 2021, lege artis has been a supporting member of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutscher Kunstvereine (ADKV), which includes over 300 art associations. “With our ADKV sponsoring membership, we want to make a contribution to getting people excited about art and culture,” says Dr. Brigitte Bartelt.
Dr. Bartelt’s nieces, the fourth generation to be integrated into the family business, are also passionate: Sabrina Rother has been with the company since 2006 and Nadine Rother since 2009. This means that lege artis is well positioned for the future – in line with the company motto “according to the rules of the art”.
